FIRM Action: Our Families and Our Future are On The Line,
Lawmakers Must Uphold our Values
The first order of business should be reopening the government. Period. Instead, President Trump has offered previously rejected proposals for temporary protections for DACA recipients and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders in exchange for $5.7 billion for his racist wall. Kica Matos, spokeswoman for FIRM Action, issued the following statement:
“President Trump and Republicans have only been talking to themselves, not negotiating. Trump cannot be trusted. His administration, buoyed by spineless Republicans, manufactured this crisis in the first place. They were the ones who cancelled DACA and Temporary Protected Status (TPS). And now, in exchange for a dangerous vanity wall that would cost taxpayers nearly $6 billion, they are offering to walk this back—but only for three years. This is simply not acceptable. What we need are permanent solutions for the millions of DREAMers and TPS holders whose lives have been in limbo.
“The government has been partially shut down for 29 days. Millions of hardworking families are struggling to make ends meets while the Republican Party plays games with their lives. Senate Republicans should take up the House bills immediately and vote to reopen the government.”
